THE ONE THAT

DIDN'T GET AWAY

Don Abbott died on July 14th in Louisville, Colorado. He is survived by his second wife, Elzbieta; 2 children, Lon and Tasha; 3 grandchildren; his sister, Judy; and his older brother, Jim.

(Information on Don's Memorial Party's at bottom of this page).

Don attended Whittier, Wilson and Highland through his junior year; and although he attended Sandia as a senior, he always considered himself to be a Hornet.

After HHS, Don graduated from UNM and married his first wife, Dona, the mother of his children.
He taught high school history in the Boulder, Colorado area and with the exception of a brief time in Guatemala, Boulder was where he lived until 1990, when he joined the Peace Corps and went to Poland. This was one of over 40 countries in which he traveled and lived. He returned to Poland after his stint in the Peace Corps, and spent the bulk of his time there, while maintaining a residence in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

He retired from the American School in Warsaw in 2005, and returned to Glenwood Springs. In November of 2005 he was diagnosed with brain cancer and returned to the Boulder area for treatment.

Don was truly a world traveler, always seeking adventure and new experiences. He took numerous bicycle trips throughout Europe, ran 2 marathons after the age of 59, climbed a few mountains, hitchhiked his way across Nicaragua during the Contra uprising, and visited the 4 corners of the Earth.

He was a great father of two fine children and a great friend with whom I spent many days and nights fishing, talking, planning, playing, reminiscing and solving the world's problems.

Hello All,

Well, it's a flurry of e-mails today huh......wanted to give more detail on the memorial.  Due to schedules of some of Don's family and friends, we're going to have 2 memorial "parties".
One more "formal" and one informal.

The first and more "formal" party will be on Saturday, July 22.  We're still working out the exact time and location but it will be in the Boulder area and around 9:00 am. I will send details and directions once they're finalized. We'll scatter Don's ashes in the area during this memorial "party".

The second and more informal party will be held in Glenwood Springs on Tuesday, August 8. We felt that the service next week might be tough for some of you who are out of town to attend so we felt it
would be good to hold a separate party. We will probably hold this at a park near Don's Glenwood home, a favorite play area for he and Dziekuje. More details on this party will follow as well.

It would be helpful for me to know who is planning to come to what party so that we can plan appropriately. I will supply you with directions and hotel lists that would be good for the respective area.

Thanks again everyone for the support and love it means so much to all of us.

Love,
Tasha

PS: In lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider a donation to the Lance Armstrong Foundation
